Prompt

You are a brand researcher designing a brand perception study. Help me create a survey to understand how our target audience perceives our brand.

Brand: [Brand name]
Research objective: [What decision will this research inform?]
Target respondents: [Who should take this survey — existing customers, prospects, general market?]
Key competitors to include: [2-4 competitors to benchmark against]
Survey length target: [e.g. under 10 minutes]

Design a complete survey with the following sections:

1. Screener questions (2-3 questions to qualify respondents)

2. Unaided awareness (open-ended — what brands do they know in the category?)

3. Aided awareness and familiarity (ratings for our brand and each competitor)

4. Brand associations
   - Open-ended: what words come to mind for each brand?
   - Attribute battery: rate each brand on 8-10 relevant attributes (suggest the right attributes for our category)

5. Brand preference and consideration

6. Customer loyalty questions (NPS if current customers)

7. Messaging response test
   - Show 2-3 positioning statements and test resonance

For each question, provide:
- The question text
- Question type (multiple choice, rating scale, open-end, ranking)
- Why this question matters / what it tells us

End with a recommended analysis approach and the 5 most important things this survey should reveal.

How to use

  1. 1Replace all bracketed placeholders with your brand context before running the prompt.
  2. 2Paste the completed prompt into ChatGPT or Claude.
  3. 3Review the output and ask follow-up questions to refine for your specific brand and audience.

Pro Tips

  • Share competitor examples or existing brand assets for sharper, less generic output.
  • Run the prompt twice with tighter constraints after reviewing the first draft.
  • Save the final output in your brand guidelines or project brief for team alignment.
